Introducing Fletcher

Post  SacramentoPugs on 12/22/2010, 3:31 pm

Please meet Fletcher, the latest pug foster to make a stopover at Casa de Marlee. He's a wonderful boy, about 2 to 3 years old, and was picked up as a stray in a neighboring town. Nobody has come forward to claim him at the shelter.

He's reeeeeaaaalllly skinny, but his bloodwork was excellent and he's already gained 1 pound in a week, so we're working on fattening him up (which, as you might imagine, is a FUN task with a pug!).

Fletcher is a petite guy; he'll probably weigh about 15-16 pounds when he's of normal weight. His neuter surgery will be a bit of a drag because he's monorchid, so the doctor's going to have to go looking for that possibly missing testicle. But he's otherwise in perfect health, and could not be sweeter. Very snuggly boy, loves to sleep in the big bed, completely indifferent to the cat, warms your lap while you watch TV. He's a gem and will make someone a lovely companion.

Fletcher likes coming to work with Marlee and me on weekdays. These were taken in my office this morning:

Hi! I'm Fletcher!

A top view to show his bony little bod. He looks 100% better than he did a week ago. I think he'll be ready for adoption in early January.

And one more just 'cause he's cute.

Oh man, what a cutie. He looks like a model for one of those cheesy paintings of the kids with the big eyes.

But yeah, he's really skinny! Look forward to seeing him put some weight on.

He'll do well once he is fattened up!
Just one word of advice - make sure his potential adoptive parents understand that with those overly protruberant eyes he is a shoe-in candidate for dry eye and will need to have tear production tests done regularly (probably 6 monthly for him) and they will probably be looking at a not too far away future where he needs eye lubrication several times a day.
He may even need surgery if his eyelids don't completely cover his eyes when they're closed. Forewarned is forearmed!

That's great advice, Angela -- thanks! I noticed the other night that his eyes don't close all the way while sleeping. Now I'll be sure to let the adopter(s) know what to look for and to inform their vet as well.
