New Foster - Otis (pic)

Post  Brenda on 12/22/2010, 7:26 pm

I've actually had him for almost a month, but this is the first good picture I've gotten of him. No idea why he got on our stairs, but he just looked so cute! He's 10 years old and was surrendered due to marking (wasn't neutered - go figure) and he needed double ear surgery due to chronic infections. He's doing great now and can snore up a storm!

Oh he's handsome! I love pug snores.

People are jerks about the potty training issue. Of course he marks if he still is intact! DUH!

Well, you know what? They don't HAVE to mark if they are intact. I have had lots of intact males--all my border collies were intact as I had breeding contracts with the breeder--around me over the years and they didn't mark. We worked with them so they wouldn't. Yes, neutering helps, but honestly, if you train a dog properly, they don't have to mark--with or without balls.

People are just lazy.

However. he is cute as a button.

Yes, you are right. I shouldn't be so quick! It just burns my biscuits how people are so lazy about potty training and the neutering thing, and the answer is always dump the dog.

OOOOO send him here! O how precious is he?

And I second it about the marking. I always had intact males back when I was breeding and they all learned NEVER to mark indoors. Not rocket science, just consistency.

Some people will say anything - did it take them 10 years to realise he was marking in the house? Swear censored

Oh hell, Renee--I'm the Queen of Judgement about this stuff. It just chuffs me that people don't neuter their dogs and then don't do the work to avoid marking and then give the dog the heave-ho. Unless you are legitimately breeding a dog, then neuter the sucker.

Or the other one I get alot: "we neutered him and he still marks in the house." Yeah, well, there is some training involved, you know. The snip isn't a magic trick.

Supposedly he marked in his first foster home, but he only tried it once at our house. I kept a belly band on him in the beginning just in case. But, now he's perfeclty house trained. He's also crate trained and loves his crate, eats and sleeps in it. I now keep it open during the day and he can come and go as he pleases and is now spoiled and sleeping in the big bed. :) He loves it! It was hard taking my two to bed and putting him in the crate, he didn't understand (in my opinion, of course), so in the big bed he went. Very Happy
