Our next step is to go Friday for an abdominal ultrasound to check for stones that didn't show up on the x-rays because no vets who do the ultrasound are in this afternoon.
If there's nothing there, then we'll do another, more sensitive (I think she said anaerobic as the last one was aerobic) culture with urine collected direct from his bladder. The first culture showed no infection.
Becky, I just pm'd you. So, so sorry!!
Re: Tyson is straining to pee
Ultrasound last night showed no stones. They took another urine sample-direct from the bladder. This vet was able to do the culture in their office, and if something grows then they'll send it to the big lab to find out what it is.
The s/d food was brought up again but I told him I wasn't comfortable with that. If there's no infection shown with this culture, and his body is prone to these crystals, I will move on to supplements, cranberries, monitoring the pH of his urine, etc...
It just makes me wonder, if he hadn't had the "no peeing situation", how long would he have had these without me knowing, and how ling did he have them prior. The sample I took in on Wednesday was only for a recheck, he had no symptoms or anything.

Becky, good for you for not giving in on the S/D food. I think you can manage this better yourself with diet, supplements, and monitoring pH.
I'll be really interested to see what the vet finds from the direct sample. And, so happy there are no stones!
It does make you wonder, doesn't it? This whole situation has made me much more observant about my own dogs peeing habits. I don't always see them pee, because I don't stand out with them every single time. But, I now make sure I see them all pee at least once each day.
