Mel, I would take in a pee sample for a culture and sensitivity. If you can't collect it, ask them to do it. Don't start the meds until you get a sample. It could be a completely new bug and you want to make sure you're giving her the right meds. Having gone through this countless times with my girls over the years, and so often one right after another, I know the frustration. Hope you can knock it right out this time!

thanks Rona. I just emailed my vet and asked him if I need to bring her in.

In general, rods are the more resistant bacteria, so it would make sense if you need to try a second round or a different/"stronger" medication. I'll echo what some others have said...something specific like a culture may be a good idea, especially if a second round of antibiotics doesn't do the trick. Chances are the infection never went away. It was probably multiple types of bacteria and the first round of meds killed the sensitive ones or killed the infection partially but not well enough to stop a re population. There can still be bacteria even if you don't see blood, so the recheck UAs are a good idea at the end of meds.

Good luck treating it. It shouldn't be a horrible ordeal once you get the right meds. Hugs for you and Zoe.

I just hope she's not in pain. :( The vet said to finish this round and let him know. he wants 5 normal days, but since I'm not sure what that looks like at this point, I'll probably still bring her in to get rechecked at the end of this round.

I love that he is accessible via email so I don't have to bring her in every time.
