Diesel
Ok Diesel when in monday and got fixed..They said to keep him calm yeah right...Well today he looks a little brusised or it could be rasor burn from them shaving him...Now the big question is why does he still have his balls? Ok every male dog I have seen or had had no balls after they were fixed. Now instead of 2 of them it looks like one big one.Should I call the vet? He acts fine I did catch him licking this morning and so he has the cone back on and I put bag balm on his owie...So is this normal or is it something he needs to be seen for?
thanks
thanks

Re: Diesel
Bruising is common after surgery. It's been a really long time since I had a male neutered, but I do know they have some swelling afterwards.

Thats what I thought about the swelling is normal..It has not gone down any either...but my sister goes to the same vets and her weenie dog was fixed 3 months ago and had balls left.....Well the cone has sure calmed his butt down.I dont want to look like an ass and call the vet and ask why does he still have his little balls....LOL

That's just the swelling, it'll go down. Anytime there is an incision into the skin there will be bruising as well, it's just how healing works.
Don't worry, just give him a chewy and put him in his crate and he'll chill out for a while. :)

THanks I was just worried because my sisters dog had no swelling nothing when he was fixed....I thought the brusing was normal and he does have a razor rash also on his tummy where they shaved him...He has his cone on and really settled his wild butt down.I will keep putting the bag balm on him a few times a day...Damn I was ready to take a picture and post it here so you can see what I was talking about....LOL yes sometimes I worry way to much.I thought oh lordy he tore his stitches and has to go under again...My mom was prepaired for the vet bill...Thank goodness for myparents when an emergancy happens...

Are you putting bag balm on his incision? I'd not use that at all right now, even on the razor burn unless it's far far away from the incision. If you feel the need to clean the incision use room temperature distilled water or saline solution. The bag balm might be causing some of the swelling if it's getting in the incision, it could be causing a low grade infection.

WOW I did not know that at all..I just put bag balm on it this morning and wont do that again.....I should of just left the cone on him and only took it off for him to eat....He can drink water with it on I felt bad cause he kept walking into stuff...But it is now staying on for atleast a week now.I will only take it off for him to eat.Now he had it done monday so by monday that is a week if the swelling isnt down should then I worry...OMG I am glad when I got Lola she was already fixed...this is worse with Diesel than with my human boys when they got cercumsised....

I know ice reduces swelling. 15 minutes on, 15 mins off. But, I don't know how you're going to get an ice pack on his once-there-were-balls area for 15 minutes.

It took quite some time for Mack's package to shrink. I woulnd't be too worried unless it appears the area is infected. It's best to keep it clean and dry.

I dont think he would let me do the ice...It is so my fault by not keeping the cone on him....slap me a few times..

Re: Diesel
I wouldn't ice the area at all. It's totally normal for a male dog to appear "un-neutered" after surgery -- the scrotum remains swollen for a while. It can take weeks or even months for the scrotum to shrink up. (And don't feel bad, we get asked about this every single day at the shelter's spay/neuter clinic -- people always go, "Hey, you forgot to neuter him!" when they come to pick their dogs up.)
Watch for extreme redness around the incision, or for bleeding. Don't let him lick the area. That's about it. He'll heal quickly, I promise.

Thank you for all the help...I am sure he is fine and no meds on this package and glad to hear its normal for it to be swollen for awhile...

Re: Diesel
It is normal for him to look un-neutered BUT if he gets very swollen, he might have a ruptured blood vessel (happened to my daughter's dog). I think you're keeping a good eye on him so you'd know if a little swelling got out of hand.
Amazing how our furkids can make us worry, isn't it? I can be very paranoid!
