Persistent Cal, licking incisions
Non-pug related: How do I keep Calvin from licking/nibbling at his incision spots?? Tried an inflatable donut collar (he's limber), can't use an Elizabethan type as it rubs on one of his incisions, and he is now sporting a very lightweight, 100% cotton tank top which keeps him from licking two of spots.
I'm wondering if anyone has ideas or suggestions. I just keep saying "no" and he stops for a minute (or five) then starts up again. Can't leave the room for two minutes because he just starts up again. Took a speed-shower this morning and by the time I got out, he had pulled off the shirt and licked (his fur around the area was obviously wet)--I was out of the room MAYBE five minutes.
Did I mention his beagle persistence overshadows any pug determination I've experienced in the past?
Also, do you think it is harmful to have the tank top touching one of the incisions?
I know, I know, I am a worried mother.

Re: Persistent Cal, licking incisions
Kim, a combination of what you are doing should work. Keep the t-shirt on, that will help. Try putting the donut back on him, at least to try and deter him somewhat.
Then, maybe give him something else to lick, like a kong or a bully stick.
Believe me - I go through this daily with my foster Winston. You should see him all decked out. He is wearing socks on all his feet, a donut, and the whole house can be heard yelling "Winston, quit that lickin!!". What a stinker!

He's wearing the donut and the shirt LOL. He looks pitiful. And I have to keep him in the big kennel crate because if I don't, he'll hide under the table or behind the couch and lick lick lick.
Unfortunately I can't give him a bully or Kong because he had a dental and a tooth extraction and isn't allowed hard chewy things yet.
I can't even go to the grocery store! And my sister is in Vegas and my mom isn't feeling well. So I think I have to order a pizza tonight
