And yes Mel, it's great to be able to email your vet and get a detailed response quickly!

the C&S alone was $70. the total bill was $160. unless you're saying you pay $160 for just the C&S. ?
I said that I pay $160 for a geriatric blood panel, not including collection of the blood. I'd have to check what I paid for the last C&S, but it was more than $70. I think $70 is a decent price.

I'm also loving Blanche's image of fastidious organisms! Too funny!

I'm not sure the breakdown of the charges, but when Jax has a UTI, it's usually around $225 between the in-house UA, the C&S, and the 1st round of Clavamox. I can't remember, though, if that's when we've been able to get a good, easy, free pee-in-a-ladle collection or if it's one that we have to do through the bladder wall with a needle.

Okay--looked up the last C&S--which was for Theo's ear and not for urine. His C&S was $120. I haven't had to do a urinary C&S in years.

First, Mel, I hope that Zoe is feeling better soon. Second, this has been great and timely information for me. Violet was peeing on everything and we did a urinalysis right after her dental (which she'd been on Clavamox after dental to prevent infection) and her results came back negative too. We even did x-rays to check for stones. She has continued to pee on everything and started peeing blood. I feel horrible!!!! This has been going on for awhile now so we've got her back on Clavamox for 14 days.

I know! I felt so bad. Didn't even want to think about her in any kind of pain. She's been more cuddly lately, so that typically means she's not feeling well. :(
