EMERGENCY SURGERY

Post  GrannyPugMom on Thu 17 Feb - 13:25

Please be praying for Onyx Faye-Faye as she is undergoing emergency surgery this afternoon. Last week we took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with a UTI. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to be getting any better after a week long round of antibiotics. She was still piddling every where and even our poor bed has been laundered everyday for a week. Today the vet took x-rays and found several stones in her bladder. She feels that they are semi-soft since she couldn't palpitate them. She said though left untreated the problem would only worsen and she didn't think that there was a medicine good enough to dissolve the stones, so she said surgery was our only recourse. So please be praying for Onyx for a swift recovery and strength for mommy and daddy to get through this.

She's Awake!

Post  GrannyPugMom on Thu 17 Feb - 16:52

Just heard from the vet office that Onyx Faye-Faye is awake. She did good thru the surgery. She had struvite stones (3 large stones and 4 little stones), so that means Royal Canin S/O for the rest of her life...No table scraps, no treats, no nothin'...so please definitely be prayin' for this little food motivated puggie.

She's Home!!

Post  GrannyPugMom on Fri 18 Feb - 21:39

YEA !!!!! Onyx Faye-Faye came home this afternoon at about 4PM. We went to rescue her from the vets office and my oh my what got our attention is not good. Dr. Hankins came into the office and said, "Let me show you what we removed." OH MY GOODNESS those struvite stones put the durn Hope Diamond to shame. Three absolutely humongous things....and then there were enough small stones to be classified as baguettes in a setting. I've never seen such smooth solid things...ok so may not the Hope Diamond, but definitely a honkin' huge opals. Talk about feeling guilty and wondering if we had somehow missed symptoms. The vet said that her bladder was very definitely thick and that she had the stones for some time. Definitely now feeling bad about it. Fortunately for us though, no matter she still loves us and wants to be close and snuggle. So for now antibiotic for 7 days and pain pills, if she needs them, S/O for life and only green beans or carrots from here on out. ABSOLUTELY NO TABLE FOOD SHALL PASS HER LIPS !! Again, thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.
