Ohio Dog Auction-Ohio Pug rescues- 5 pugs! TODAY!

Post  Maryjo on 2/25/2011, 11:30 am

I belong to a Yahoo puppmill fighters group. This was recently posted. It happens tonight!

Dear Companion Pet Lovers ~

The March audit conducted by the Office Inspector General on USDA licensed, commercial dog breeding facilities serves as a strong example of why we must continue to unite as a humane community in raising awareness of Ohio dog auctions and their relationship to puppy mills and pet homelessness! Click here to read the report!

2. Peaceful Rally Against the February 25 Ohio Dog Auction!

BE A STRONG VOICE FOR THE DOGS ON FEBRUARY 25, 2011!

Following our very successful rallies in Millersburg (May 22 and August 21) and Charm (September 25, November 20 and January 15), we're ready to stand united against the Ohio Dog Auctions in Holmes county!

DATE:
Fri., February 25, 2011

TIME:
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

LOCATION:
Millersburg Courthouse ((just minutes from the site of the February 25 Ohio Dog Auction)
1 Jackson Street
Millersburg, OH

SPECIAL NOTE! Supporters will meet at the entrance to the Holmes County Fairgrounds (8381 State Route 39 West, Millersburg, OH) at 9:45 AM, then drive as a caravan to the rally location!

ATTIRE:
Since February 25 could bring snow and some cold temperatures, be sure to dress accordingly!

SIGNS:
PLEASE BRING SIGNS!

Please remember that many farmers and dog fanciers - hobby and show breeders - are supporting the Ohio Dog Auctions Act, and they will be present at this rally. Our focus is the Ohio Dog Auctions and their relationship to puppy mills and pet homelessness, so please ensure your signs reflect this message!

STAND UNITED!

The Ohio dog auctions serve as a major distribution channel for buyers and sellers from 15 states, many of whom have long standing, repeated violations of the Animal Welfare Act and/or have been convicted of animal cruelty.

Here's just one example taken from a USDA inspection report for an Ohio 'commercial' breeder who profits from these dog auctions:

"One licensed breeder in Ohio, with no veterinary qualifications, operated on a pregnant dog without anesthesia; the breeder delayed calling a veterinarian and the dog bled to death. The inspector also found that 40 percent of the (200) dogs in the kennel were blind due to an outbreak of Leptospirosis. The inspector determined that the facility’s water was contaminated and had caused the outbreak."

BE THEIR VOICE!

We know many of you will be working on Friday during the time of this peaceful rally. Unfortunately, the puppy mill dogs who will be bought and sold during this auction have no reprieve against the abuse and neglect which occurs 24/7.

We know that peaceful rallies are an important component in our strategy to ban Ohio dog auctions! It worked in Wisconsin (supporters from that state consistently had 50 attendees - even when weather was below zero - at every rally), and we are confident it will work in Ohio!

Now THIS I love. Peaceful demonstrations are a GREAT way to get the message out. Much more effective, in my not-so-humble opinion, than having a rescue group actually bid and pay for the dogs at the auctions in order to "save" them -- which just puts money into the wrong pockets.

Sounds very organized too -- good on them!

That's in the heart of Amish country where Aggy is from. It may be cancelled, they are in the 8 inch snowfall area. We are in the 12 inch area and with the high winds it's awful. That's about 2 hours from where I live and I would love to join them sometime. Maryjo, can you send me a link to the group?

We have a local group here who is doing peaceful protests nearly every weekend all over the Chicagoland area. They are doing an excellent job! They've gotten several pet stores shut down, stopped 4 new ones from being opened, and they are in the process of getting a "Puppies Aren't Presents" billboard put up on one of the busiest expressways into the city before the end of this month. I believe that they are in the process of starting a national group with other anti-puppymill groups from other states as well. They spoke at a conference I was at last weekend and they are an impressive, hardworking bunch!

I really support you cause. I wish I could do much more, but I'm not from the U.S. We have a jack russel and I'm glad he came from good place. I really hope your work makes a big difference.

Thanks

We need to make this activity illegal everywhre

Post  CathyDoggins on 12/18/2011, 7:21 pm

You are setting a great example by organizing and inviting others to attend this protest. We've been thinking of doing something similar where we live out on Long Island in New York. As a frequent publisher and writer on dog health issues, I'm frequently seeing the results of poor breeding practices. Just look at what has happened to our poor bulldogs, the breed with the greatest number of health problems. Everyone that works in pet health needs to unite behind this issue.

A peaceful demonstration for a good cause should be encouraged. Too bad I'm not from the US if not I will definitely support you. It is especially heartbreaking to see repeated violations of the Animal Welfare Act and animal cruelty. Save those poor dogs! how to gain weight fast

Any insight into the random "post and run" in this thread, MJ, since you're a member of the Yahoo group?

I don't know if people would be googling this, but if you search for "Ohio dog auction" this thread comes up in the top 10, and if you search for "Ohio pug rescue" it comes up about 5th.
