Looky who we have here!
Her name is Paisley!! Pictures first, then her story!

She is just 11 weeks old. Puppy breath!!
She fell (or was dropped?), yesterday by her owner. They went to the vet and the xrays showed a break in two places. The cost of surgery was quoted at $2,000 or $700 for amputation. They sent this baby home in pain, with just rimadyl!! Anyway, the owner could not afford the surgery, and in fact, told me she had to borrow money to pay for the xrays. When she called rescue, they were looking for the sort of deal where we pay for the surgery, but she gets to keep her puppy. I told her (of course) that I understood her need, but that is not how rescue works. I said she could surrender her girl, and we would get the surgery.
The owner called back less than an hour later and had me come get her. I took Paisley to pet emergency immediately. She had an injection of hydromorphine and xrays. They put a big pink splint on her to keep her poor leg stabilized.
Surgery is set for Monday. It's going to be difficult. The break is right in her elbow and causing luxation. And, she's so young!! The pain meds and splint have helped a lot and she is trying to run around today like a puppy.
Her ears and nose roll are both badly infected too.
We won't have her long. She is just darling!

Poor Baby!
Thank goodness she made it into the care of rescue.
She looks precious in that pink cast...

Re: Looky who we have here!
amputation? can you imagine if we went to the dr and they said, "well, we could set and cast it, or we could amputate."
I'm so glad they surrendered her!

I'm so glad the dumb owners had enough sense to call you guys so quickly!! Glad she'll be okay. If ever there was a classic example of "if you can't aford the vet, you can't afford the pet", this is it.

Re: Looky who we have here!
Poor thing. Okay, this brings back a childhood memory of when my dad & his wife got a spitz puppy and he was wiggly and jumped out of my arms and broke his leg. The poor thing had a cast and I was only there on the weekends, so my dad had to deal with a puppy trying to chew his cast off M-F.
I just wonder about the fact that her nose roll was infected and that wasn't being treated too. Owning a pet is so expensive and I just don't think people realize it until something happens and then the they don't have a plan of how to pay for it. I don't have $4k lying around to pay for surgeries, but I have a low interest CC that I use until I can pay it off. Each of us has to make different sacrifices for our babies and some people just don't have the means to make those sacrifices. Hopefully they have learned their lesson and won't go out and get another dog.

I'm very glad the owners gave her up, they did the right thing.
I'm sure once she is ready she will be snatched up in no time.

Holy Pug, she is a cutie. I love the name. Although, the cast represents something horrible, she does wear PINK well!
I'm glad the owners decided to call you back.
Now, I wonder if these people will got out and get another puppy.

Yep. Amputation happens a lot here as many owners can't afford to fix the break.
She's cute, cute, cute.
She's cute, cute, cute.

What a cutie! Chris was looking over my shoulder and I think he's in love!
When I'm walking down the street with my pugs and I get asked "how much did he cost" I always say "He costs me a lot - every month".

Re: Looky who we have here!
I've now posted a plea on our home page for donations. We've been hit hard recently with major surgeries.
She is just too adorable for words!

Re: Looky who we have here!
Oh my - what a cutie she is. I'm thankful the owners had the obvious sense to know she was in pain and to do the right thing. They obviously cared enough to try to figure out a way and then after only an hour called you to give her up.
She is a adorable! Back when we had Java, she broke her little leg somehow (we never figured it out) and had to wear a cast. What a nightmare it was! She was hilarious though - she would spin and pivot on it. We actually had to have the cast replaced because she messed it up.
A TIP! They also told us to keep it clean. That was interesting and pretty difficult to do. I ended up buying a bunch of cheap kids tube socks and put them over them. She wore through one sock a day, but it kept it pretty clean!
Best of luck with her. Glad you got her

Her story is quite sad. I bet they get another puppy because it will be cheaper to get a new puppy than it would be to get an amputation. Dummies!

Puppies bounce back quick! The tough part will keeping her quiet after surgery. Lots of good thoughts for her today!
I'll send a donation after payday, I know the surgery is really expensive!

Same here! She'll be up and running around in no time after that surgery -- puppies are so resilient!
What a little doll.
