My hospice, Snickers

Post  ForeverHopper on Wed 30 Mar - 19:57

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I've been here and there lately. Between work, rescue and personal life, I try to squeeze in some time on here. Anyways, I want to introduce yo to my hospice baby. Her name is Snickers and she will be 16 on April 6th. Her owners lost their home and was torn to surrender her (I wouldnt have been able to afte so long). They are coming up this weekend to help celebrate her birthday. I am very blessed to be able to take care of her in her senior years. She is as precious as they come and as vocal as they can get at dinnertime. We love her to pieces and my husband is very protective of her. He takes his time with her and loves on her like no other. He's a special daddy to her. She is hearing and vision impaired but quite healthy for a pug her age. After a few weeks in our home (had her since the end of January) she now rushes (trots) to the door to greet us with the rest of the gang and wags her tail in such happiness. What a special little girl she is. Here she is in her spring/birthday dress I got her. Very Happy

WOW !!! Adorable. She does not look 16. She was well cared for and loved. It is so sweet that they are coming to celebrate her B'Day. Though it must hurt,

I know it hurts them but I send them pictures and videos of Snicky weekly. I have left my home an open door for them to come and visit anytime as long as I have ample time notice so I can be available. They were so concerned at the beginning but saw how I spoil my other 7 babies and with the updates, they said life for her couldnt get any better, lol.

I did find a lump on her neck this past weekend. I cant tell whether its a fatty mass, cyst or the dread C word. She seems so good in spirit and happy. She does have a vet appt. on Friday AM to check it out and then we're heading to the specialty store to pick up her cake and let he pick out her own gift. I cant wait to take her there.

I just love seniors, especially when I adopted my first foster, Chipper, at 12 1/2. I had to let him go in June 2009. I can't believe it's been that long. He's the reason why I would take in any senior over a young pug in a heartbeat.

What a beautiful old gal - and she looks great. How bittersweet this must be for her former owners, but you are doing something wonderful. Something many people would not do.

Oh Sharon, what a sad/glad story. Sad that at her age she had to leave her family and they were obviously heartbroken. I'm so glad that they are still a part of her life and you're sharing it with them. If the unthinkable ever happened to me (Dog, I hope not!) I would sleep easier at night knowing my babies were in the care of someone like you. She looks so completely precious. hug dog

Thank you everyone. She is as precious as they come. I know my heart will be so broken when it's her time but it's all worth it to love her. How can you not, right? Her parents are coming tomorrow, yeah!

Oh, I found the pic they sent to me of Snickers in her younger days....so precious!!

Great Scott, she's gorgeous. How wonderful that you could take her and that you are so sensitive to her owners grief. I will hope that the lump is nothing. She looks very happy with you!
