Woofstock 2011

Post  northernwitch on 6/10/2011, 3:50 pm

Starts tomorrow. It's our BIG fundraiser of the year. There is a Walk-A-Thon on the Sunday that is where we make some dough. Betsy has walked in it a few times with Hilary. Tank participated last year, but ended up being carried for most of it (lazy old sod).

All the rescues participate in the Walk a thon on the sunday and get pledges. At our best we made 14 grand several years ago. this year we hope to make 6 or 7. With the economy still not fully recovered it's been harder to get walkers or pledges.

No, I won't be bringing anyone as I'll be working the walkathon booth on the sunday and there's just no time to watch the dog and they'd end up crated--no fun for them or me.

Here's the info on the Walkathon:

I am ashamed to say I have never been, smaller city girl that does not like heading into the traffic of TO .. lol
Actually we always have something on the go that weekend.
All the best to the walkers, this year it is cooler unlike the ones in the past, and hopefully a lot of money is raised !!

I went and did some shopping at Woofstock today since I never get to. Bought a great T-shirt that says:

"It's all fun and games until someone ends up in a cone".

they had another one that I almost got that said:

"I like Big Mutts and I cannot lie"

Here's the link--they have a number of funny shirts, magnets, notecards, etc. Including one with a pug on it.

And Saira--I'm wearing my SNPR T-shirt tomorrow while I man the Walkathon booth!

I think it was. We raised $400+ at the booth and apparently had the highest pledges in the walkathon, but I don't have a tally for that as yet.

Woofstock is always a mixed blessing. I see way too many shitty dog owners there dragging their clearly terrified dogs through the crowds. Most dogs don't handle that kind of event well--100,000 dogs and 250,000 people. It's too stressful for most dogs.

Manning the booth with a dog is fine as it's not jammed at the booth, but wandering the event is a hassle. I find it stressful when it's just me. And I saw some pretty grim dog fights and near dog fights and watched a couple of dogs have a go at children. Not pleasant in that respect.

Lisa--yeah, the Stubbies shirt is cute. I'd get it for my son who does drink, but I'm never sure if he'd like stuff like that or not.

Good luck to pugalug!!!

Big events are always mixed blessings.... they are work and can be so stressful, but the money raised is really invaluable!
