Puggle!

Post  monkeypigs4eva on 6/27/2011, 11:52 am

A friend in Michigan has a boss who has a 5 month old puggle male who "has to find a home by Thursday". MEGA EYE ROLL.
If anyone has contacts in that area, I'd appreciate the information. I don't have much info other than he is a young, healthy male, very friendly.
I hate to think of this poor puppy going to the pound.

People are assholes. It makes me sick when people get puppies and then just a few short months later they are getting rid of them.

Sorry - maybe I am being judgmental. I hope this poor puggle finds a home.

good luck with that Kim. Puggles are tough. We aren't able to take them at all down here... and our foster homes don't want anything to do with them.

Maybe one of the rescues can do a "courtesy" listing if the family will agree to hang on to it until it's adopted out.

Nope, the puggle has to go. I don't have a full story other than he is great around other dogs (he lives with three others). I have no idea why they have to get rid of him.

Believe me, I am judgmental too. BEYOND judgmental. It pisses me off so much!

Totally right Allie. We take in puggles... but, I have to admit, every time we do, we sigh. Puggles are hard to place, and we've had more than our share of placing them only to have them come back. The fool who made these things up should be slapped by every single person working in rescue.

Same here. Tough tough dogs to place.

He's fixed. The owner is splitting from his partner and must move, he already has three other adult dogs and can only keep three. He thought it would be better to place the puppy--that he would have a better chance. I guess he has been well cared for and is healthy--the guy is pretty upset about giving him up.

I am still judgmental. Does this make me a bad person?? Trust me, when we had to give up the girls, I was (and still am) judgmental about MYSELF .

But it is the puggle thing. It drives me INSANE.

The puggle is definitely a hard one. and there ARE good reasons to give up a dog, especially when it's in the best interest of the dog. neither thing makes you a bad person Kim - being judgemental, or making the decision to give up your girls. I placed my cat in another home... so I'm the last person that will judge you.

Shit happens to everyone. No way he can get a break to keep the puggle until they find it another home? the partner can't temporarily take one of the adults or something? that's what I find so hard to deal with - the "it's gotta go, and it's gotta go NOW".

We helped with a private placement of a puggle - random lady asked our rescue about them, and I had a friend who's mom wanted to find another home for hers. so we matched them up directly...

I don't know if we've been contacted as Jerry does all In-Takes, but I've got no available Foster Homes right now and a waiting list a mile long!!! It's so bad right now with owner surrenders. Last week alone we had (4) and all with multiples to surrender!!

Kim--it might be worth him checking with the beagle rescues (if there are any in Michigan). They might take a mix. I know that beagle rescue is often as slammed as we are, but worth asking.

I'm a step ahead of you--am trying to get beagle rescue too, but they ARE slammed.

Hey all. I run a Facebook page for puggle owners and a separate rescue page as well: https://www.facebook.com/PuggleDogRescue

If you find a puggle in need of a new home please post it to the wall there and I will repost it to broadcast it out to all the fans. There are definitely lots of people, at least on my pages, who are always looking for puggles or will be willing to foster home while looking for a suitable owner.

Thanks!

It's great to here that you're out there! What geographic area do you serve?

It's Facebook so anyone, anywhere can join. The page has become a network of people all over the country so we get notifications from everywhere and post about puggles needing homes everywhere. There are almost 500 people in the group. And once a week I link the rescue page to the larger puggle page on Facebook that has almost 8,000 puggle fans. I get requests all the time for people looking in various areas of the country so any and all available puggles are welcome to be posted!

Personally, I very much support adoption. I think people who want puggles assume you have to buy them from a backyard breeder or a pet store. So I am always trying to publicize that, like all types of dogs, you can find them to adopt if you take the time to look.

I love pugs by the way. When I adopted my guy I was looking mostly at pugs. He has a great snuggle pug demeanor. And a few pug grunts tucked in there for good measure. :)

That is awesome, thanks for posting here and letting us know. I agree, a lot of people don't really know where to look, and probably would look specifically for puggle rescues versus pug rescues that might have puggles.

That's probably true. I don't think there really are many puggle rescue organizations out there because it's a relatively new mix (hell, mixes as a purchase are new anyway) and still not crazy well-known like the pug or beagle from which they spawn. People don't know where to look. So anyone on here if you see a puggle in need of a home post it on my Facebook page I'll try my darndest to help! :)

Great to know you are out there and in my area too! Have you been in touch with the pug rescues? There's a new one in LA - Pug Nation of Los Angeles. Also, Pugs and Pals in Orange County.

It's very sad, but I get emails from Adopt-a-Pet when pugs (or mixes) are available. The majority of them are Puggles or Chugs.
