Meet Kirstie Alley

Post  TxAllieGrl on 7/11/2011, 3:20 pm

my latest foster girl:

more of a pot-bellied pig, not a pug. poor girl! it makes me sooo mad that someone did this to her. she came from the Baton Rouge shelter. we had to remove 2 lumps from her left shoulder - both mast cell tumors. she has some wicked scars, poor baby.

she's as happy as she can be. very laid back. she walked in with my 3 pugs like it was no big deal.

needless to say, girlfriend is on a high-protein, low/no carb diet.

I had to snicker at her name.... Laughing I hope she gets a name more reminiscent of a svelte TV star soon enough! Poor girl. She does look VERY happy though - that may change when she realises her comestibles are lacking in fat and sugar!

Awe! Okay, I think the name Kirstie Alley is hysterical!! Someone has a sense of humor!! Heehee

She is very, very cute and she looks like a happy go lucky girl. I can see she will be on a green bean diet for a while. I had a foster that fat once. Frank. He weighed in at 37 pounds when I got him.

I hope the MCT's get good clean margins and low grades.

How old is she?

yeah, our volunteers are hilarious. I call her Kiki Dee so far, I just don't think Kirstie Alley is easy to say! but that's her "official" name in our records.

She's 8 years young, and weighs 27.5lbs right now. She's a fairly small-framed pug, so this weight makes her look like a total sausage. To give you an idea, her frame seems pretty similar to Dre's, who is all of 16lbs at her ideal weight.

She is VERY much a happy go lucky girl. I can't imagine the energy she will have when she gets the weight off. Even now she pops up to follow me around, takes off to run outside with my gang, and is always smiling.

What a pretty , but fluffy , girl she is.
It appears someone loved her a bit much in the yummies dept and she'll likely not be pleased to find out what you have in store for her.
Will be awaiting updates of her progress.

She's adorable, and reminds me of my (also very fat) foster Maggie. Love the grin! She'll be even more gorgeous at a healthy weight.

Yup - she's a smiling sausage.

Steve's reaction made my heart melt a little more - after he got over the shock of how big she is, he proclaimed that it's cruelty to do that to a dog. This from my non-dog NYC guy! I'm proud...

She is adorable!! Even with being that big. She's going to look great once she gets some weight off of her. And you should be proud of Steve, that is so cool.

What are you going to feed her to try and get the weight off?

Do you know what and how much she was previously fed to get her to her current size? I just pulled up a pic of my old foster Maggie for reference, and they really do remind me of each other.

She was 25.5 pounds, and like Kirstie Alley, I estimated her ideal weight at around 16-17 pounds. Good luck with her diet!

I sought the advice of our fat-pug-boot-camp expert (she's the one who has fostered our biggins in the past) - she suggested going to a very high protein and low carb diet, preferrably raw. I'm looking for Primal, Stella & Chewy's or Nature's Variety for her. In the meanwhile, it's a little of the kibble I have on hand, and green beans.
