Anaplasma
She has not shown any symptoms but had a blood test done last week and it showed up.
I'm afraid this might have been my fault, with the upheaval in my life last month I forgot to give her her tick stuff.
She will be on an antibiotic for a month 2x's a day, so far she is taking it in her food no problem which I'm grateful for, nothing like trying to get meds in the mouth of a pug if they refuse!

Sorry to hear your gal is sick, but glad there is a workable treatment for her.
How did you know to test her if she wasn't showing symptoms? (Just curious--I'd never even heard of this until your post.)

I didn't know, the new vet I took her to said she had not had this particular blood test (Heart-worm/Lyme) in two yrs.
I have noticed Viv is a bit mellow but I just figured that is because she does not have Rup getting her going. That is part of the symptoms but she does not have anything else like loss of appetite, swollen joints, vomiting or diarrhea. We must have caught it right in time.

Thanks for the info.. Glad to read you caught it in time so she doesn't have the painful symptoms. Your vet sounds very on top of things, too, which is always great!

Hope Viv gets feeling better soon! I know what you mean about getting an unwilling pug to take a pill! I have to pry Gidget's mouth open and literally push an Atopica down her throat. The pill is so big I can't hid it in anything. Heck, she recently figured out how to eat a marshmallow and spit the pill out that was in it. She is worse than a toddler with medicine!

Thanks everyone. Viv seems totally fine so I'm glad the vet caught it.
My new vet is awesome, I started to use her for my foster June, then unfortunately I had to use her because of Rupert. She and her staff were so great to me during that time, that I decided to switch to her permanetly.

I am so glad that it is treatable and that you caught it early. Sounds like you have a great vet.
And Penny will carefully and delicately eat the cheese from around her pills and spit them out.

Donna, hopefully you did catch it in time since she's not showing any symptoms. We're sending lots of prayers your way that the meds work and Viv is back to 100% very soon.

She is just fine, I would have never known she was sick. She is a bit more mellow than normal but I just chalked it up to her not having her buddy around and she is seven.
I'm doing OK, each day gets a bit better but I am still feeling like I just can't believe it, it's like a bad dream that I want to wake up from.

Re: Anaplasma
well this sent me for a lurch (you too, probably!)... I am glad it seems it's a completely treatable scene for you and Viv...
And the extra "lovin'" that comes when being fed a pill, probably makes you both feel better and special again... at least a little bit!

It is another name for Ehrlichia or "tick fever". I don't know why they changed the name.
