Sadly, Izzy also has a puncture wound on her hind quarters and a rip in her ear on the same side as the lost eye.We feel, based on the evidence, that she was in some sort of dog fight or attacked. I don't know why I torture myself, but I just went and re-read the initial message from the old owner. It said that Izzy spends most of her time outside and that she had the "eye infection" for a few days (3-4). The wounds on her ear and her hiney are healing, so yes, she was probably injured a week ago. Lord help me - was she outside with that eye like that? Did another dog attack her? I am in tears here.
Renee, that sounds very very similar to what happened with Hope. Only she was found tied to the door of a vet. Thank goodness she's in rescue though, her life will be so much better from here on out. Hope's spoiled rotten now.
I'm still judgemental-while I understand there are reasons to give your dog up (and frankly, they are better off in most cases), leaving an animal to suffer is never justifiable.

((((Reneé))) At least she is safe now, and from the video I saw, her spirit is intact. Her angel was watching out for her and delivered her into your care.
If she hadn't been injured, therefore hadn't come into rescue, she would be outside 24/7 and UNSPAYED!
A large dog could have killed her the next time she came into heat. Not to mention no pug should be outside 24/7!!!

MaryJo, you are absolutely right. Thank you for reminding me. I guess I need to look at this as a blessing for Izzy. What is one lost eye, when it means getting away from a home that obviously did not love her nor could care for her? Izzy is never looking back, and so neither should we. I know we saved her from a worse fate, and she is truly a remarkable pug.

Poor pumpkin. I've been following on FB but haven't gotten over here enough to post. Glad to see she's healing well. Loved the video of her trying to play. I can't imagine how much better she must feel.

Just seeing this for the first time. Reading about Izzy makes me know that for her this is a truly happy ending. The loss of one eye is a small price for her to pay for getting out of that awful situation.
Again I say bless everyone in pug rescue and for all the pugs who get happy endings and forever homes.

Oh, Renee, how tough this is for you. But you are absolutely right - with rescue dogs, we must look forward, and try not to look back. Thanks to you, Izzy now has a future, and her past is best forgotten (however hard this may be for us to do).

Amen. I heart pug rescue. And I really heart you, Renee, for saving this sweet little girl.

Renee: Of course as humans with a heart (sans former owner obviously), it's sooo hard not to think about the hows and whys though we know it brings more hurt than anything.
I'd venture to assume that poor Izzy was like that for quite more than 3-4 days. As for her, she's in good hands, happy , & healing so she really doesn't care about the past. The forgiving spirit of the dog as it is.
You've given her a HOME of LOVE and that's what she focuses on now.
Yes, she lost an eye but resiliance doesn't allow for that to bother her. She's moving on pain free and happy. She joins the ranks of some pretty classy winkers so be happy for her in the *now* , though I know it's hard.
I still occasionally think of how my Dra would have probably lost his if that woman hadn't brought him here but he's a spitfire and quickly reminds me he's forgotton and I should to. My current heartache is Mickey and his pitiful prior life which the thoughts don't pass so quickly but as he's playing, rolling around , and growling happily to himself - I know things will be okay for him to.
