Champ, the "pure bred" pug

Post  northernwitch on 8/9/2011, 4:09 pm

We just got this guy in to the rescue. Family is relocating and couldn't keep him. Got him from a "breeder" who assured them he is a purebred pug. Really? Looks like a pug/boxer mix to me......intact, but we'll fix that. He's a year old and his tail is docked (great).

Thank God the foster home that has him had boxers before getting pugs so is familiar with the boxer behaviour. He's sweet, I hear, but a total chucklehead.

He is an adorable dog, just not a pug. *LOL* I like the boxer/pug theory, especially since his tail is cropped.

Love those teeth!

He looks a lot like McLovin' a pug mix we had that we suspected was a pug/boxer mix.

Yeah, that breeder.... Rolling Eyes

If he was supposed to be a pug (<< coughbullshitcough >>) why the hell would they dock his tail!?!? Glad such butchery is illegal down here. Looks like a sweetie though!

We'll see how he shapes up. Another rescuer has said that she had a jug like this--but I'm wondering if the dog she had was really a jug or a pug/boxer mix. It's all a crap shoot/guessing match in any case.

Could be a jug, could be a pug/boxer. So far, other than being exhausting, he's a nice guy.

He looks like a very amateurish Photoshop project! Laughing

Will hopefully be a great dog for somebody who maybe wants the personality of a Boxer, but in a smaller size.

Rolling Eyes that "breeder".

Cute little fellow though definatly different. The photoshop job came to my mind to. Like someone switched the tail, left the body and added a snout. Laughing

That is just a little strange. A docked tail?

He has an interesting look, a good sized snout for sure. I cannot believe some one really thought that was a pure bred pug. Rolling Eyes

Blanche, I did not know you were taking in pug mixes?

We have always taken mixes if we can. Sometimes we refuse them when we have a backlog/waiting list of pugs. I generally won't take puggles because most people want to surrender them due to aggression.....

And the owners told us he was a pug and we didn't know otherwise until the vet records came in and the vet commented that he wasn't a pure pug and then we saw him.

We don't have a hard and fast "no mixes" rule as we know saying that will just encourage lying. As it is, we get dogs like Champ whose owners are too clueless to know he's not a pure bred pug--so we get mixes by default.....

We've had pekes, frenchies, and all sorts of mixes in rescue because they said they were "pugs." Laughing Even after we saw them and said they were not pugs, most people still kept insisting.

Blanche has reminded me that my brain has become addled. Wrong dog. We don't know who Champ's breeder is. We're working on intake for another dog, a female, whose breeder we would love to have closed down. Let's hope that she really is a pug.

He looks a little like an "Ori-Pei" to me - a pug/shar-pei cross that we're seeing more and more of in shelters around here. Much like Puggles, they vary a lot in the looks dept.

Pure bred pug my rear end.

He does look sweet. The face looks to me as if there might be something like a Staffy in there rather than Boxer but I'm sure it's anyone's guess really.

Heck no. I'm going to dip into the millions of dollars that the rescue has. Cause you know us rescue folks--we are just rolling in the dough with our outrageous adoption fees and all.
