Two hoarded cases in one week

Post  Brenda on 8/13/2011, 6:02 pm

Yes, it's been a long week. Some of you have seen all this on Facebook, but I thought I'd share here too. Jana heard about supposedly 50 - yes 50 - pugs needing to be rescued in Chattanooga. It ended up being a hoarder who was moving into a nursing home. Her sister came the night before our contact went there and took 10 of the dogs and some went to Animal Control. There ended up being a total of 28 dogs that needed to be rescued. There were pugs and chis and mixes of them both. Jana did a wonderful job of contacting rescues and most were taken care of by all breed rescues and SEPRA only had to take 4. These guys are in pretty good health.

Now comes another worst case. 35 pugs and bostons in a hoarder case here in GA. They were taken to a local shelter. They were surrendered by the "owner" so the owner wasn't charged since they surrendered them. And supposedly the state is going to get them help. We were lucky there too as there were only 4 pugs. The rest were bostons and mixes and boston terrier rescue took them.

But, the 4 we took are in horrid shape. ALL have NO hair (or very, very little) due to scarcoptic mange with skin infections on top. We have three adult females and one 9 week old puppy. And yes the 9 week old puppy has no hair as well. One is heartworm positive, but I am not sure which one. They are all on one foster home now as he has the means to isolate them since they are contagious.

For those of you on Facebook, you can see them here:

I need to resize the pics to post them here.

they are all so very sad Brenda. I'm glad you were able to help out, and within means (at least it wasn't 50?!).

Good job Jana on getting help for them from other rescues too.

Crying or Very sad The pictures just break my heart.

I guess as long as I live, I'll never understand how someone can let things like that get so out of hand without treatment.

Bless those involved with getting them to better places, so fortunate there truly wasn't more of them as first thought.

I saw this on FB, just heartbreaking. I hope the real bad ones are able to get the care they need.

What is going on with all of these hoarding cases lately? Sheesh! We're still trying to get the other 6 from the case we dealt with a couple of weeks ago. The daughter of the hoarder contacted us to take three more but I won't be able to sleep, wondering what happens to the other three that they keep.

So sorry to see the pictures of theses babies with the sarcoptic mange. They must be miserable. And I'm sorry for you because I know the stress of getting calls like that now! Hope your blood pressure is back to normal! Wink

Jesus. Hoarding cases are the worst. So far, we haven't dealt with one in the pug rescue, but the cat rescue people deal with them all the time.

I sometimes wonder if the "Hoarding: Buried Alive" show has made people more aware of the issue.

Thank goodness, they had places to go. Sarcoptic mange is awful.

As Rona said, thank dog that they are safe with you. And bless the foster home that took them in. And bless all fosters and rescuers. Poor little things!!!! So much unnecessary suffering.
